The Program

The Curriculum

The Collaborators

This program assists students in their efforts to learn the vocabulary and grammar (morphology and syntax) and the ancient neums of the St. Gall and Laon notation families.  It provides a foundation for exploring the nuances of interpretation that these musical languages can bring to modern chant performance.

The curriculum progresses from the simplest neums to the most complex in several sequential levels for each notation.  There are also exercises that compare the two types of notation with each other and with modern chant notation.

This project is a collaborative effort among The College of the Arts and The Digital Worlds Institute at the University of Florida and L’École de Chant Grégorien du Choeur Grégorien de Paris.
