Dr. Edward Schaefer

Dr. Schaefer has served the College of Fine Arts at UF as Associate Dean for Academic and Student Services since 2007. He oversees all undergraduate and graduate curricular matters for the college’s three schools, three centers and one institute, as well as student advising and all other student services. He also directs the college’s work with th e affiliate New World School for the Arts in Miami.

 

Prior to coming to UF, Dr. Schaefer chaired the department of music at Gonzaga University for 12 years, and he directed a choral program at Gonzaga that distinguished itself with invitations to perform at state, regional and national conventions of music educator and choral director associations – two to perform at the national convention of the American Choral Directors Association.

 

Schaefer holds a certificate in advanced leadership studies from Gonzaga University, the DMA in liturgical music from The Catholic University of America, and MM, MSM, and BM degrees from Southern Methodist University.

Dr. Angelos Barmpoutis

Dr. Barmpoutis is currently an Associate Professor and the coordinator of research and technology in the Digital Worlds Institute, University of Florida. He is also an affiliate faculty of the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Department and the Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Florida. His current research interests lie in the areas of machine vision and applications, virtual reality in medicine, human motion capture and analysis using RGB-D cameras (such as Microsoft Kinect sensor), biomedical image processing and visualization, and facial recognition and expression analysis. Dr. Barmpoutis has coauthored numerous highly cited journal publications, conference articles and book chapters in the aforementioned topics, and has received several awards and grants from various funding agencies including the US National Endowment for the Humanities, and the US Department of Transportation.

Ethan Tripp

Tripp started with the Digital Worlds Institute at the University of Florida in May 2013. He graduated from the University of Florida in Spring 2013 with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education. As a music education major, Ethan had an interest in arranging music to be played by various ensembles around campus. This lead to the development of his skills within music notation software, and eventually into audio recording and editing software. Ethan first worked for Digital Worlds as a Music and Media Producer for the Race to the Top Project, a federal initiative that promoted improved methods of assessing K-12 students in arts classes around the country. Once the RTTT media production project was successfully concluded, Ethan joined the Masters of Arts in Digital Arts and Sciences program at Digital Worlds. Among other projects, Ethan is currently working with a team lead by Dr. Edward Schaefer on the Chant Project, creating a database of ancient neumes to build a program that will supplement the curriculum of any given course on ancient chant notation.

Sirui 'Quincy' Liu

Liu is a Ph.D. student from the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. Prior to attending UF, he graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China with a bachelor’s degree of Control Science and Engineering in 2010. At UF, Quincy works in the Mobile & Pervasive Computing Lab directed by Dr. Sumi Helal. His Ph.D. research topic is human activity modeling and simulation of high realism and scalability in the context of smart homes. Additionally, he has a keen interest in Human-Computer Interaction, mobile app development and UI/UX design. He developed two iPad apps, one of which won the Best App Design award in the MPDE Mobile App Development contest in 2013. Besides technology, he is also enthusiastic about studying human factors in engineering projects and has rich experience in conducting user studies and user feedback analysis. Quincy started working at Digital Worlds on the Chant Project since August 2014.

Mo graduated from Northeastern University in Shenyang, China with a Bachelors of Engineering in Digital Media. During her undergraduate study, she combined art and science through learning design and programing courses. She has experience in Android development, animation design, UI design and Unity3D game development. She has designed a 2D animation for the BMW VI design competition. She also gained hands on experience on website UI design through the Lanqiao Cup Computer Design Competition where her team made a campus-wide anonymous social website called “Esoterica”. She developed an Android based image processing App for her bachelor’s degree project, using libraries of Android image processing and OpenCV for Android. Mo joined the Digital Worlds Institute in August 2015 as a Graduate Assistant and student in the Master of Arts in Digital Arts & Sciences program. Her current graduate assistant work consists of designing and implementing UI for the Chant Project, assisting Ethan and Quincy with creating the database of ancient neumes and exercises development.
